Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette

Hey friends and welcome back! Today I will be sharing my review of the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette. I was undecided on this palette for a while, but just recently I decided to give in and give it a go. This palette is mostly neutral with varying cool and warm undertones of the shadows. So far, I have been enjoying it! I find that I am able to achieve a variety of looks that all turn out looking pretty good. I think this is due to the quality of the shadows. They all blend so effortlessly, that even if I am not sure what look I am going for, it always turns out looking pretty good!

QUICK FACTS

Price: The price of this palette is $49. While two shadows are bigger than the rest, you are technically paying $3.06 for each eyeshadow pan.

Cruelty Free/Vegan: According to the Too Faced Site, all of their products are 100% Cruelty Free. While the Chocolate Bar Palette is not vegan, the brand does carry a multitude of vegan products. It is also good to note that this product does not contain parabens, sulfates, or phthalates , which may be of concern to some buyers.

“Good for you” ingredients: These eyeshadows are formulated with antioxidant-rich cocoa powder. Not only does it smell like chocolate, the “antioxidant and emollient properties help smooth the skin while boosting skin’s moisture levels.”

Packaging: The palette is encased in a tin that has a magnet closure. While its cute, sometimes I feel that it can be a bit noisy with the tin and that the magnet is not a secure enough closure. Not bad packaging but not my favorite.

About the brand: Too Faced is known for their cute and sweet branding and products. Everything is very frilly and girlie. While this doesn’t necessarily fit with my aesthetic, I don’t mind it. Their products are good and always have me coming back to try more! The key products in their range are the products formulated with cocoa powder.

VERSATILITY

When thinking of versatility of an eyeshadow palette, I think of the range of colors and looks you can create. While this palette does not have a crazy range of color, I actually appreciate that. It makes it a lot easier to come up with cohesive looks. On the other hand of versatility, you could definitely use Champagne Truffle as a face highlighter. You could also probably use some of the matte brown shades (Milk Chocolate or Semi-Sweet) to fill in your eyebrows.

DUPES

Makeup Revolution is a company very popular for duping high-end hyped up products. They have come out with a few Chocolate Bar palette dupes for $15. I think that it would be hard to have the same quality of shadows at this price point. Also, the colors of the eye shadows are not very similar to the shade selection in the Chocolate Bar palette.

COLOR SELECTION

I like to classify the palette into two sides; the left and the right. Divided this way, there would technically be 8 shadows on each side of the palette.

The left side contains a lot of matte and neutral colors that have mostly warm undertones.

The right side is more colorful and contains colors with more pinky/purple undertones.

SWATCHES

The following pictures are swatches of all the shadows in the palette. Each color has two swatches; a finger swatch and a brush swatch.

L to R: Gilded Ganache, White Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Salted Caramel, Marzipan, Semi-Sweet, Hazelnut, Crème Brûlée, and Haute Chocolate.

L to R: Black Forest Truffle, Triple Fudge, Strawberry Bon Bon (Hard to see as it blends into my skin tone), Candied Violet, Amaretto, Cherry Cordial, and Champagne Truffle.

LOOKS

Look 1: This look is a neutral warm toned look. I used mostly the left side of the palette. This was a really nice daytime look but you could easily make it more dramatic by blending in Triple Fudge to darken up the look.

I first applied White Chocolate all over the lid, from lash line to brow bone. Then, I blended Milk Chocolate into the crease. I patted Hazelnut onto the lid and then placed Marzipan into the inner corner.

Look 2: This is a more cool toned purple look. I used mostly the right side of the palette. I love how natural and classic this look is! I like to pair it with a nice matte black liquid liner.

I first packed Strawberry Bon Bon onto the lid. Then I took Triple Fudge and Milk Chocolate on a fluffy blending brush and took it from my outer crease all the way to the inner crease. Next, I applied Amaretto to the outer third of the lid. I went back in and applied Strawberry Bon Bon back on the inner two thirds of the lid. To finish off the look, I tapped Candied Violent right on the middle of the lid.

In my opinion, I would say that this palette is worth the money! I can go in without a game plan and always come out with a great eyeshadow look. I appreciate the quality ingredients and feel that they make blending out the shadows super easy.
